I like to turn on a cooking or home reno show to help distract my brain from thoughts that will prevent sleep. But sometimes it just doesn't work and my night goes something like this:
Eventually, I do manage to fall asleep and wake up ready to tackle whatever special event is in store for that day.
1. Do you get insomnia?
2. Do you have any good methods for conquering it?
3. Is your brain as annoying as mine?

I struggled with insomnia so much until we adopted our daughter. I swear I thought it was going to be a forever thing. Even when I was little my sleeping was terrible and I was a light sleeper which I think all came together to create me as the voracious reader I am today. I had so much time on my hands especially at night when no one else was awake.ReplyDelete
I tried everything back then. Meditation and white noise yoga everything. Now I just think I'm too exhausted to have insomnia. Maybe get you a baby :-) become a nanny or move in with me.
Oh yes! I read in bed all the time growing up too! As for the baby thing...yeah, not so much. But I would certainly visit <3Delete
Love your drawings. Could feel everything. Now I play games on my phone and listen to stupid stuff on the radio at 3:00 a.m.It's so annoying.ReplyDelete
:) I don't like to get out my phone if I can help it. I think that wakes me up even more.Delete
You nailed it! Now *I* want some peanut butter toast ....ReplyDelete
Haha! Go enjoy your toast--so glad you could relate, Coco :DDelete
Oh it only gets better as one gets older...so that's probably why I work out. I was never a good sleeper. I stayed up all night at Christmas (my poor parents)- once I found a job that exhausts me (working with preschoolers all day) and training for triathlon, I swear that's my reason...so I can fall instantly to sleep! Love the drawings and conversation w/Ms. Brain!ReplyDelete
Thank you! Yeah, I do tend to sleep better when I'm exhausted after work, but since I'm not doing that these days sleep is a bit more dicey.Delete
Ugh, that is so my mind...especially reliving things that I 'regret' or am embarrassed by :O Sigh The drawings are spot on!ReplyDelete
Thanks Linda! Monkey brain is the worst--sorry you have it too!Delete
Haha! This is totally me! Last night I woke up and my feet were throbbing. I was sweating. I had to pee. Then I ruminated about work. Thought about getting up for some ibuprofen for my feet. But didn't want to wake the dog. Then I was cold.ReplyDelete
It's like you know me... :)
Throbbing feet! That sounds like a terrible way to wake up, let alone everything else! I guess I'm not "glad" you can relate but there's always comfort in knowing I'm not alone :PDelete
I have very minor sleeping issues sometimes but nothing like you are describing. How stressful! Thanks for joining us for coffee today although perhaps coffee is not what you need!ReplyDelete
Haha! Excellent point. Now I will go drink my coffee...because I love it.Delete
I can so relate to this as a lifelong insomniac!! I have no tips to give but definitely need some!ReplyDelete
Glad you can relate, sorry about the insomnia!Delete
hahaha, crueeeelll cruel brain. :'(ReplyDelete
It is a real pill sometimes!Delete
I don't have insomnia in the traditional sense -- I fall asleep no problem. But I often wake up a couple of hours before I want to (like several nights this week).ReplyDelete
That's rough too. Any time you want to be asleep and can't be is no fun!Delete
I usually fall asleep pretty fast but I do struggle with I am hot, then I am cold, ok well just a little :)ReplyDelete
Yeah that part is super annoying!Delete
This is me to a T!ReplyDelete
I plan what I will do with my huge lottery winnings.
Except I don't play the lottery, ever, thanks brain.
Oh, sorry it's the same for you! Haha--silly brain pretending to play the lottery!Delete
Awesome! It sounds interesting. Actually, i always wait to read your article. And i must admit that your post is really attract mine. These photos look funny. ^^ReplyDelete
Thanks so much, Canus!Delete
LOL. So true !ReplyDelete
As soon as I cut out processed food, sugar and wheat (or at least cut back) I sleep like a baby !
A light dinner usually helps too.
Healthy eating is definitely a big help, I agree. Thanks Karen!Delete
Oh yes, I recognize these. For me it's always conversations where I could have said something better or an argument where if I would have done something or said something different, it would have gone a totally different way.ReplyDelete
The only way I can get to sleep during times like that is to distract my brain by thinking about 1) Sex or 2) that I'm Spider-Man swinging through New York. Something about that puts me right to sleep, and, weird part, I've never been to New York.
Yeah those alternate ending conversations are the worst. Thinking about sex helps you sleep?? Being Spider-Man helps you sleep??? I feel like those are things that would definitely not elicit sleep.Delete
Oh, I totally relate to this too! Sometimes I get so figidity and all I can concentrate on is trying to stay still and not wake my husband up!ReplyDelete
You're so much nicer than me! I can't stay still and I don't try to. I will also turn the tv back on if I think it will help!Delete
I'm usually a good sleeper. But sometimes...ReplyDelete
I love your work as always. Thanks for making me smile. :-)
Thank you Debbie! So happy I made you smile!Delete
THIS WAS SO FRIGGIN' FUNNY AND SOOOOOOOOOOO freaking TRUE!!! And I loved the picture of your feet hanging out of the SHEETS! THAT IS ME EVERY FRIGGIN' NIGHT!!! BAH HA HA HA HA! I am too hot and then too cold, so I HAVE TO hang a leg out of the sheets! BAHAHAHAHHA! Julie I friggin' love you! And your brain is on a kooky level much like mine! ;)ReplyDelete
Why is it that it's always the leg that needs to stick out?? Such a pain in the butt! And thank you--kooky brains are the best brains, they always say :DDelete
