An Ode to My Birthday. The Big Four-OH-EM-GEE!!!

My birthday's here! THE BIG 4-0.

My 20s saw college and my wedding,

And now my 40s have appeared.

This decade needs to start with flair,

Some lip injections, Botox too.

That "health screen" for the older ma'am,

But wait! It might not all be bad,

I'll join the awesome gents and ladies,

Plus older athletes need more rest.

Here's to the good that lies ahead,

So how many of you have passed the 40 mark? Tell me what you're doing now that's better than when you were younger!

UPCOMING POSTS: SWIMMING DRILLS, RUNNING

  1. Running, swimming and cycling. Being of the 80s it all began with high impact aerobics, three times weekly. Then a bit of step. Then the years without exercise but lots of work and studying. Then heading for 40 it all began. First with the running and then.........

In the UK as you get older there are less women doing Tri so I think if I just keep doing it and keep standing at some point there will be an age group win, might be in my 70s but hey that's still alright with me. Long term goals.

    1. Moonboots, that is so interesting that there are less women who tri; I feel like it's the opposite here in North America...at least in the US and Canada. I was never much into step or aerobics, but I did so much ballet and jazz. I will keep a watch out for you hitting that podium!!

  2. Happy Birthday! I hit the big 4-0 in December, and don't really have any feelings about it yet. My husband turned 40 in January, and he is still as awesome as he was the day before! So I'm expecting nothing but great things.

    1. Yay!! Thanks Axel! And for the record, for the next 12 months I am a "40 year old triathlete". Let's save the 40-something for when I'm really "40-something" ;)

  5. Going to bed early is pretty sweet. Screw those who would dare shame going to bed early. Sleep is a magical time. Same with napping...I shouldn't have read this first thing in the morning because now I'm sleepy. God, I love sleep.Sleep, sleep, sleepidy sleep sleep.

    1. Yes. Sleep is absolutely amazing. Especially in the morning when I have to get out of bed. I adore sleep and resent having to give it up every morning.

  6. I know you probably hear this a lot, but the 40s are the best. You're still healthy, young and beautiful, plus you have the confidence of a more "mature" woman. Seriously. I set all my PRs in my 40s. I was the fittest of all my life. Life is good in your 40s. Love the post, as always :-)

  8. So much is better now! I'm running stronger, cycling, and eating more pizza. I think I'll have to be in my 60s before it gets easier to win an AG prize where I live though.

  9. My big 4-0 is in a few months. Is it just me, or do you feel like people think you have been lying when you say you are 39? In other words, I'm still doing my usual thing - worrying what other people think. Here's hoping my forties are when I stop giving a ****.
